Acorn - Reception - Miss Walkley

Acorn class enjoyed our Key Stage One trip to Westonbirt Arboretum!
We had a morning of exploring the beautiful woodland. We walked across the treetop bridge - it was very high! We spotted different types of trees and found out facts along the way.
After lunch we had a 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt' afternoon. It was led by Westonbirt Arboretum who helped us to act out the story. We needed to guide our partners through a snow storm, walk through the long, wavy grass and squelch through the mud! After that, we found the bear and made him a scrummy picnic! We made smelly shakes for the bear using all of the natural plants around us. After that we made a journey stick of our experience gathering up natural materials to stick on.
We will be following up our learning from Westonbirt in school this week. We will be writing recounts and in our Art we will be combining media to create tree collages.

Welcome back!

Adventures in Acorn class!

It has been an exciting week in Acorn class this week. We began our week using our new 'polling station' role play! We have been voting each day and making decisions that effect our school day in Acorn class.
We went on a trip to Folly Farm. We went on a minibeast trail looking at how minibeasts can be protected in our gardens. Then we made our own minibeast home in the woods and collected minibeasts to go in it! After lunch we had lots of fun pond dipping, Kinsey found a newt! We explored the creatures found in the pond altogether. The children were praised for their maturity and their fantastic behaviour throughout the day! Well done Acorn class. Our trip provided us with a fantastic round up of our topic 'Down at the Bottom of the Garden.'
In term 6 we are going to be starting our new topic 'Under the Sea.' We will also be going on a KS1 trip to Westonbirt Arboretum. We have lots of exciting learning planned for this term, this includes creating resources for our 'Beach Shop' role play. We will be creating an 'Under the Sea' collage using a variety of materials.
In our Communication, Language and Literacy we are going to be talking about what we would see and explore under the sea and begin to write about this. We will be researching sea creatures and writing fact files about them! Acorn class will also be thinking about our upcoming summer holiday and writing postcards.
In Maths this term an aspect we are going to be exploring is doubling and halving. The children have enjoyed having their doubles song to support them in learning their doubles. We will be starting to use what we have learnt so far to help us solve doubling and halving problems. We will then move on to learning about distance and position. We will have daily number practice and provision to secure our knowledge of number.
We look forward to an exciting term of learning! Please read the term 6 parents booklet to find out about what we will be doing in each area of learning.
